A huge thank you to everyone who helped with our Spring Fair on Saturday. The super weather was an added bonus! We raised a fabulous £988! We would also like to thank you to everyone who joined us and supported the event.
On Wednesday 17th May, all the children from Class 3 went to Denby Cricket Club for an event run by Amber Valley School Sports Partnership. The children were taught different cricket skills before having a game. It was a super afternoon and we all really enjoyed ourselves.
We had a lovely time during our open afternoon to celebrate the coronation of the King. Thank you for coming to join us for the craft activities and for all the amazing cake donations!
We were invited by John Barker from The friends of Cromford Canal to plant some hedge whips (small hedge plants) along an adopted stretch of the canal at Lower Hartshay. The plants were donated by the Woodland Trust to provide future habitats for the local wildlife.
The Forest Schools group accepted the challenge to help and planted the remaining 100 plants of hawthorn, hornbeam and elder.
We also buried a small time capsule to commemorate our efforts in sustaining this beautiful area.
Our Special Mentions Assembly was a lovely way to end the Spring Term with the Headteacher's Awards going to Thomas, Jake, Toby, Catherine, Daniel and Noah.
We also had a special celebration for Mrs Horsman who was presented with her 25 year service award from Derbyshire County Council. A special award for a special lady.
A fabulous day with lots of opportunities to really celebrate books and a love of reading. Some super outfits too!
We have an amazing piece of art currently hanging in our school hall.
It is a Himmelli, Swedish for 'heaven'.
Our Himmelli was created by the art collections team at Chatsworth for the Nordic Christmas theme and was displayed in the house.
It's a traditional North European craft, made out of straws. The straw most commonly used was rye straw from a previous harvest year.
Once constructed it hangs above the dining table to bring luck, prosperity and a good rye yield for the coming year. Hung from Christmas to midsummer, tradition says the bigger the Himmelli the larger the harvest!
A huge thank you to Miss Hall. Miss Hall works at Chatsworth and put our school's name forward for hosting one of these stunning pieces of art.
We are proud to announce that we have achieved the Bronze BERT Award. Part of the work towards the award has been further developing our Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) provision, further developing positive relationships in the school community and reducing stigma around asking for help and support on sensitive issues, such as puberty, body image and online friendships. We feel very strongly that when children have good friendships and connections with others, it supports their safety, mental health and wellbeing. This then has a positive impact on their ability to take part in lessons and to achieve well in their learning.
We had a wonderful time on our History Day. The costumes were fabulous! We had toy timelines, a museum set up in class, Viking jewellery design and creation, hieroglyphic messages and name cards, and work with clay.
