On Thursday 10th November, we were really lucky to welcome back Lise Bennett and Heidi Luker who previously led our community wireworks project.
Lise and Heidi brought their exhibition, Ambergate Wireworks - The part they played, to school and led a whole school assembly. The children had the opportunity to explore the exhibition in small groups and parents were invited to join in at the end of the school day. The pieces in the exhibition were stunning.
In October, our Year 6 children were invited to work with Mel Langton to create artwork for the Poppy Art Project with East Midlands Railway.
Mel worked with with 8 different community groups and schools to create 8 individual pieces of artwork, which were then used to create one large piece of artwork. Copies of the individual pieces of work have gone on display at the station nearest the school/group (Ambergate) and two copies of the large piece have been put up at Derby and Nottingham for Remembrance Day in November.
It looks absolutely fantastic!
Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Harvest Festival in church today. It was lovely to welcome Wildlings along too. We loved their actions to Big Red Combine Harvester!
Everyone has been very generous with the donations for the Hope for Belper Food Bank.
Thank you!
We are so proud of all the children from Class 2 & 3 who put themselves forward to be part of the school council this year.
They showed real determination and bravery when speaking to the whole school over two assemblies this week. They had all written fantastic speeches.
The voting took place yesterday. Congratulations to Amelia Wingfield, Lucy Taylor, Daisy Mulchinock and Catherine Baker on their appointments. We would also like to recognise Edward Watson and Noah Bickley as our new Lunchtime Club Organisers.
We had lots of wonderful cakes donated for our Macmillan Coffee Morning and it was lovely to have so many families join us in school.
We raised £378 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Lise Bennett, who worked with school on our family wire project and the sculptures for the carnival, and Heidi Luker, who also worked with school on the sculptures for the carnival, have an exhibition this weekend of sculptures and the soundscape in an immersive installation. They have created sculptures which reflect how the wire was used. There will be photos of the work created by the children too.
We have been lucky to have George and Becky from Derbyshire Wildlife Trust and Lise and Heidi from the Wirework Art team in to join us in school today. All the children had a session with George and Becky learning about flood defences, going on a mini beast hunt and making a wild flower seed bomb. Heidi and Lise worked with all the classes to make bull rushes and ducks which will be used for the carnival. It was fabulous!
Class 3 had an amazing afternoon today playing, singing, listening and dancing with the Halle Orchestra. We took part in the performance along with 1500 other primary school pupils playing instruments and it was awesome. Topped off by a performance of ET by John William at the end!
