At Ambergate Primary School, we want our PE curriculum to foster children's physical, social, and emotional development through inspiring, inclusive, and challenging activities, ensuring they become physically confident, healthy, and lifelong participants in sport and movement. We believe high-quality PE improves physical health, enhances mental wellbeing, and builds crucial social and emotional life skills.
We provide a range of experiences, including extra curricular activities, residentials from Y2 through to Y6 and working with Amber Valley School Sports Partnership.
We have a team of sports leaders who are trained by Amber Valley Sports Partnership and lead activities during lunch times.
This week, our school had the privilege of welcoming Ottilie Robinson-Shaw, a world‑renowned freestyle kayaker whose achievements include 30 World Championship, World Cup, and European medals. Her visit brought excitement, energy, and a powerful message about resilience and ambition.
Pupils from across the school took part in team exercise relays, working alongside Ottilie and experiencing first-hand the focus and determination that drive elite athletes. The hall was buzzing with enthusiasm as children encouraged one another and pushed themselves to do their best.
After the activities, Ottilie delivered an inspirational talk about her journey in sport — from discovering kayaking at a young age to becoming one of the most decorated athletes in her field. She spoke openly about the challenges she has faced, the importance of perseverance, and the joy of pursuing something you love.
The session ended with a lively Q&A, where pupils asked thoughtful questions about training, motivation, and what it takes to compete at the highest level. Ottilie’s honesty and passion left a lasting impression on everyone.
We are incredibly grateful to Ottilie for spending the day with us and for inspiring our pupils to dream big, work hard, and believe in their potential.
