Admissions Policy
The school Standards and framework act introduced a new statutory requirement for every LEA to ensure that every parent of a child living within a LEA who has applied for a school place in the normal admission round receives an offer of a place, and only one school place on the same day.
All primary schools within a LEA’s area have been co-ordinated from September 2006 intake onwards.
Parents will be invited to express their preferences for schools within their own LEA’s area on a common application form, which the LEA will provide. Applications will only be considered on a common application form. This form must be returned to Derbyshire LEA for places at Derbyshire maintained schools.
Ambergate Primary School will follow the Derbyshire County Council’s coordinated admission scheme for primary schools. The coordinated scheme covers pupils starting school in Reception Class and for in-year admissions. A copy of the scheme and the admissions criteria is available in the Derbyshire County Council’s “How to apply for a place at Primary School” publication.
The criteria states:
Community and voluntary controlled schools Individual pupils who have a Statement of Special Education Needs which can best be met in the school will be given priority where so determined by the county council in consultation with the governing body deciding on admissions to all community and voluntary controlled schools in Derbyshire, the following order of priority will be adopted.
Where in the case of 3,or 4 above, choices have to be made between children satisfying the same criteria, those children living nearest to the school (measured by the nearest available route) will be given preference.
The needs of any admission will be balanced against the capacity of the relevant class within the school.
Our current Pupil Admission Number is 12. The statutory KS1 class size limit is 30. Governors monitor and review this policy annually.
Any parent whose child is refused a school place for which they have applied has the right to an independent appeal.
