Sustainability

Ambergate Primary School is proud to be working with Let's Go Zero, and their amazing Climate Action Advisor Cindi Blunt, who help schools on their journey to zero carbon by 2030. Let’s Go Zero supports schools, colleges and nurseries in cutting their carbon, becoming better places to work, learn and play.

We believe teaching sustainability is important because it empowers future generations with the knowledge, skills, and values to address global challenges like climate change, and it fosters critical thinking and innovation. This education is crucial for developing responsible citizens who can act as "change agents" for a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous world.

We have worked with Cindi on a sustainability audit and action plan.

So far we have:

  • Registered with the Nature Park, had workshops with led by Polly, from the The National Education Nature Park East Midlands Team, and hosted a staff training event for the Belper Schools.
  • Had an assembly from Severn Trent about The Water Cycle – how our water is recycled, Science of water – how to clean and reuse water, People that help us – what they do at Severn Trent and how they make the water so clean, Making a difference - How everyone can help to use water more wisely and protect our planet.
  • Continued education around recycling and the correct use of the different bins in school.
  • Met with Rob Bounds, DCC Sustainable Travel Officer and reintroduced Modeshift Stars.
  • Introduced recycled paper.
  • Taking part in Switch off fortnight from 10th November.
